Upon enrollment in the RDLP, the adult student, the child/youth students and their (parents/guardians-if applicable, recognize that the student needs assistance and will assume responsibility for following through on the suggestions for improvement as advised by the Chief Literacy Coach. All individuals who have a vested interest in the student’s literacy sessions must, along with the student, endorse this agreement. Each signature must belong to its owner.

Literacy sessions are free and consist of 1 hour of literacy that is tailored to address the specific needs of each student. The Literacy Coach will assume responsibility for all applicable forms and supplemental learning materials. The adult students and parents/guardians of children/youth will assume responsibility for the student’s transportation to and from all literacy sessions and RDLP related community activities. Parents/guardians may remain throughout their child’s one-hour literacy coaching session (optional).

The age limit is 5 years old to adult. Students are expected to complete all assignments. Incomplete assignments will not be accepted and all assignments must be met with mastery before proceeding to the next level of coaching. Students who complete the 9 week sessions will receive a special certificate of participation, and may re-enroll for further 9 week sessions. Records of each student’s personal progress and information will be confidential.  Parents/guardians may share information regarding the child’s academic progress, or lack thereof, so as to assist the Chief Literacy Coach in planning for the child’s continual success. RDLP will not replace the child’s required grade level goals, instead RDLP will serve as a catalyst of support in scaffolding the areas wherein the student displays an obvious need for reinforcement and mastery of basic reading and writing skills.

Students are required to be serious about learning. Each session will begin with a prayer followed by a few seconds for the student, child or adult, to discuss any literacy concerns or challenges. Students must be respectful and cooperative. The Literacy Coach reserves the right to discontinue literacy coaching to any student who displays disrespect or poses probable harm to self or others after having been accepted as a RDLP student. The Literacy Coach reserves the right not to accept applications from anyone of questionable character. RDLP will not assume responsibility for students who lack progress as a result of the absence of self-investment in personal literacy growth. Individualized Success Plans (ISP) must be realistic, concrete and measurable. They will be generated by the adult students and/or (legal parents/guardians of children enrolled in the project).
